What You Put ON Your Body Matters As Much As What You Put IN It

Your skin is your largest organ

We talk a lot about nutrition — and rightly so. But there's another conversation that's just as important and far less discussed: what you're putting on your body every single day.

Your skin is your body's largest organ. It's not a barrier in the way many people imagine — it's living, breathing, and remarkably absorbent. Studies show that some ingredients applied topically can enter the bloodstream within seconds. Anything you smooth onto your face, body, hair or hands has the potential to travel inwards.

That changes the question completely. It's no longer "does this product smell nice or feel luxurious?" — it's "would I be happy for these ingredients to end up inside my body?"

Why this matters even more in midlife

In perimenopause and menopause, our hormones are already in flux. Oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone are shifting, and our endocrine system is more sensitive than ever to outside interference.

Many mainstream skincare and bodycare products are full of parabens, phthalates, sulphates (SLS/SLES), synthetic fragrance, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives and other compounds known as endocrine disruptors. These ingredients can mimic or interfere with our natural hormones — exactly what we don't need in midlife when we're trying to support balance, energy, mood and metabolic health.

Add to that thinner, drier, more reactive skin, slower cell turnover, and a compromised skin barrier, and the case for clean, intelligently formulated skincare becomes overwhelming.

Why I trust Arbonne for skincare and bodycare

I've talked before about why I partnered with Arbonne for nutrition. The same principles — clean, ethical, science-backed and genuinely safe — apply to their skincare and bodycare range.

    Here's why it stands apart:

    1.

    Cruelty-free & PETA approved

Arbonne has been certified by PETA as a cruelty-free brand — no animal testing at any stage, ever. For me that's a non-negotiable. The products you trust on your skin shouldn't come at the cost of another living being.

    2.

    Vegan & gluten-free formulations

Every Arbonne skincare and bodycare product is 100% vegan and gluten-free. That matters not just ethically, but for women in midlife navigating sensitivities, autoimmune flare-ups or hormonal skin changes — fewer reactive ingredients, fewer hidden triggers.

    3.

    Certified B Corp

Arbonne is a certified B Corp — a recognition awarded only to companies meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. It's verified ethics, not marketing language.

    4.

    Botanically based, scientifically proven

Arbonne pairs plant-derived ingredients with clinical research. Think botanical actives, peptides, antioxidants and skin-loving oils — formulated to deliver real visible results without the harshness.

    5.

A long list of banned ingredients

Arbonne maintains an extensive 'Not Allowed' ingredient list — including parabens, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, mineral oil, phthalates, sulphates (SLS/SLES) and many others commonly found in mainstream skincare. What's left out matters as much as what's left in.

    Quality ingredients, real results

Clean doesn't mean compromised. Arbonne's skincare is built on quality botanical actives, peptides, antioxidants, vitamins and skin-nourishing oils — chosen because they're proven to work, not because they're trendy. Whether it's hydration, firmness, glow or barrier support, the formulas deliver visible benefits while staying safe enough to use daily, long-term.

The same care extends to bodycare — body washes, lotions, deodorants and hand care that you can use head-to-toe knowing they're free from the usual suspects and gentle enough for the most sensitive midlife skin.

A simple swap with a big return

You don't need a 12-step routine. Start with the products you use most often — your daily cleanser, moisturiser, body wash and body lotion. Those are the ones in contact with your skin for the longest time and across the largest surface area. Switching just those four to clean alternatives is a small change with a meaningful long-term impact on your hormonal and overall health.
